Winnebago Voyage: Up the Gaspé Peninsula

We left Quebec City and headed north along the St. Lawrence River. The only problem is that today, we can't see it! The lake and occasionally the highway are covered in fog, and sometimes it's like a dark cloud so it looks like smog.

For the first 100 miles or so, there were hills running parallel to the highway in a lot of places. We saw a lot of pretty farmland and farm buildings. The roads here are pretty terrible, even on the main east-west highway which is called the Trans-Canada Highway. The crews who do the patching should have to test it with a motorhome, since they seem to amplify every bump!

In the few places where we could see the river, it looked marshy, rocky and shallow. I think it does have tides here and it must have been low tide. Apparently the water becomes salty not far east of Quebec City.

I picked a campground part-way up the northern edge of the Gaspé Peninsula. There's supposed to be some nice scenery on the coast, but we didn't see much except fog! I had thought that if we didn't want to go all the way around on the coast, we could take one of the two roads south toward the coast of New Brunswick. The closest road through the peninsula (route 299) looks like a deserted 84km stretch over some mountains. Tommie is tired of driving on the bumpy perimeter road but we were also worried about the shortcut. We stopped at an information kiosk, and the woman said that 299 was a better road than the coast road, so that's the plan for tomorrow.

Our campground is a grassy field on the banks of the river. We enjoyed talking to two sets of neighbors and watched a great sunset! The folks next door have a drone and shared some of their pictures with us!
