There is a "sugar house" near here, so we went to get some maple syrup, and since it's off-season, we had a great lesson and tour from the man who owns and runs the business. He taps about 1,000 trees, and now they use clear tubing with a vacuum system all through the woods to collect the sap.
It's abnormally hot here this week and their house does not have A/C, so we have been sweating! They are wonderful hosts, though, and it's been fun catching up with them. Chuck is a hunter and we had venison filet mignon for dinner. This deer was harvested in Illinois, so ate grain and not mast, so the taste was just like beef.
