Winnebago Voyage: Ferries, lighthouses, and rocks

It's supposed to rain tomorrow, so today we toured the two islands at the end of Digby Neck where we are camping. There's a 5-minute ferry ride to the first island, Long Island, which is about 10 miles long. We found one lighthouse at the east end and then took a 2.4 round-trip hike to Balancing Rock, which is an amazing rock formation. It looks like you could blow it over! The hike was first through a boggy area that had some boardwalks and then down a LOT of steps to the overlook. Since Baxter is mostly blind, I had to carry him most of the way. He definitely cannot do steps going down, but did better coming back up on the steps that were pretty even. He even walked on the boardwalk on the way back, with a lot of steering from his leash. It's pretty tricky keeping him on a path!

We took the second ferry to Brier Island. They charge $7 for each of the two ferries going out, but the ones coming back are free. We found the lighthouse at the Coast Guard station, and our campground information said that we could take a hike to see a colony of harbor seals from there. The hike from the parking lot further up is a long one so we tried taking the shorter one, but it is not at all maintained and got too slippery to be safe so we turned back. We rode out to another lighthouse that's in a wildlife sanctuary area before heading back to the ferry.

After we got back to the campground we rode to our point again to look for whales, and saw one breach and blow. He was pretty far out but we could see him with binoculars. We are scheduled to go on a whale watch tour in the morning, but it's supposed to rain and be pretty windy, so that may not happen.
