Winnebago Voyage: Digby Neck

We left the southern shore of Nova Scotia and drove to the northwest shore. There are not many main highways through the province so we have to keep going back over the same roads. The main roads are fair and only have occasional potholes, but most of the secondary roads are terrible. Before we got to the campground, Tommie was ready to pack up and head back to the US! This campground is in a good location for seeing a number of things on the end of Digby Neck, but we had trouble with a site. The first one had power so weak that our power-minder kept shutting down and we really needed the A/C! We moved to another site which has better power, but it was not level and we struggled to get the motorhome level. The refrigerator will not work if it's too off-level.

After we finally got settled we just rode around this area. We drove to the cove which is just a few hundred yards at the end of this road and met another couple from British Columbia who were also looking for whales. There was a really unusual RV parked at the edge of the rocks. We talked briefly to them, and they are from Germany. The husband built the RV himself and they had it shipped to Halifax a couple of weeks ago, and are heading to Alaska and then Argentina! They have three children who are being home-schooled.

We drove to the end of this peninsula and talked with the folks at the cafe who also run one of the whale-watching tours. The cafe was not open for dinner, but she said we could walk onto the ferry and take the 5-minute crossing and eat on the other side, so we did! We had scallops and chips, but it was mostly chips (fries) and not many scallops. We will buy some in Digby since I can cook those myself.

Afterward, we drove down to Whale Cove again, and there were several local folks whale-watching. They said there have been more whale sightings this year than usual and we did see one humpback whale breach. There was also one seal who showed his head a few times.
