As I mentioned yesterday, we decided to scrap the idea of going all the way around the Gaspé Peninsula since there are so many repaired (and some not-so-repaired) potholes on the road. So, we took route 299 south down through the middle and across some not-so-high mountains. Most of it is a pretty good road! There is no cell phone service through all of the middle, so I downloaded the Google map before we left, and could track where we were. We also fired up the regular GPS.
The mountains were lovely and the road ran along a pretty big river that had lots of trout fishermen. It also runs through a national park.
At the bottom of the peninsula we headed west on route 132 to go around the Bay of Chaleur. We crossed the bridge at Campbelltown and got conflicting instructions on which way to go through town. Google Maps was going to send us under an 11' 8" bridge, and I saw the sign just in time to turn. That reminded me of the
bridge in Durham that catches so many vehicles!

floating yurts in the town of Carleton-sur-Mer.
We didn't know how long the drive through the mountains would take, so made a reservation only about 200 miles away...in the little village of Petit-Rocher-Nord. It's a small family-run campground with sites overlooking the Bay of Chaleur. We were going to eat out, but everything is closed since it's a holiday: "New Brunswick Day"!
