Green Gables and lobsters!

We started the day at the Green Gables Historical Center.  The house was not the actual home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, but belonged to a relative, and it was the inspiration for her books about Anne of Green Gables.  Her books have been published world-wide, and have caused tourists to come to the island since the early 1900's to see the area she wrote about.  She pretty much put PEI on the map!  The house has been decorated with period furnishings, and there are walking paths around it.

We left there to have lunch at Richard's Fish and Chips, which is located within the PEI National Park.  We got there at 12:15 just after they opened, and there was already a line of about 20 people, which moved VERY slowly.  You order and pay at one window and then wait to pick up your food at another one.  It took about 45 minutes to get our food!  Seating is anywhere you can find a table or bench.  I had read that the lobster "burger" was better than the lobster roll, so that's what we ordered.  It was a buttered bun FILLED with large chunks of lobster....almost more lobster than I could eat....for about $15 US.

After we ate, we drove to both ends of the national park.  There are dunes, so it was hard to see the water.  We had the dogs with us, so I got out just once to take a picture since we couldn't leave them in the car in the sun.  The beach looks just like NC beaches with lots of people.  They had a nice building with bathrooms and changing rooms and showers.

I wanted to see the red beaches, so we drove south to Argyle Beach, which has a provincial park.  It had a huge grassy area above the drop-off to the red beach.  The tide was out so the water was just ankle deep for a long way.
