We went back to the Peggy's Cove lighthouse early to beat the crowds and get pictures without a ton of people in them! Then we came back to the campground and packed up for the day.
We drove to Lunenburg by way of the main highway and returned along the "lighthouse route". We went through the town of Mahone Bay before we got to Lunenburg, and both are beautiful towns. I think the residents try and compete to see who can have the most colorful house! Lunenburg is the best example of a planned British colonial settlement in Canada. The roads are terraced parallel to the harbor and the town is packed with shops, restaurants, hotels and houses. We rode back and forth around a number of streets and found nowhere to park! I had to grab photos when I could stop for a minute.
We then drove down to the town of Blue Rocks, and it was pretty but the rocks looked grey to us! We came back through Mahone Bay again and then saw other harbor villages. We saw the sign for the other Swissair memorial, and this one is where the victims are buried and their names are inscribed.
Our last stop was at Oak Island. We often watch the show "The Curse of Oak Island" and they have tours on weekends, but they are booked through the 2018 season! When we got to their causeway we weren't sure whether we were allowed to cross, but other cars were, so we followed. They have a free interpretive center with a lot of the artifacts they have found. One of the regular cast members, Dave Blankenship was there talking to people. Nice guy! Someone asked if he watches the show and he said he doesn't. I guess he knows what's going to happen!
We spend some time in the evening, making plans for the rest of the week. We have reservations at Whale Cove Campground for three days and hope to take a whale-watching tour. Then, we'll go to the north shore of the Bay of Funday to watch the tides. Then, it will be time to head home!
