Since we're still sort of on Eastern time, we got an early start to go into the park. Early is nice, since there aren't many people there, and I can just stop the car in the middle of the road and take a picture!
We watched the prairie dogs for a little bit and then continued through the park. You cannot do it as a loop now since part of the road was washed out during the spring rains. And, the road foundation is not very stable to start with.
We made two hikes out to overlooks: the Wind Canyon Trail and the Buck Hill Trail. Both had wonderful views.
There is a group of feral horses in the park. They are descendants of horses used by ranchers in the late 1800's which were rounded up as needed. Some of them escaped capture in 1954, and now live free in the park.

This is one of the pair of Eurasian collared doves that have been flying around our campsite.
They are larger than our mourning doves. |
