Three hikes! Wonderful views

We started out fairly early so we could get a parking spot in the most popular waterfalls.

The first waterfall is the really famous one that is pictured in all the literature about the gorge: Multnomah Falls.  It has two parts to it, with a pedestrian bridge over the middle.  There's a short but steep hike up to the bridge.

Just a short distance up the road are the Wahkeena Falls, with another hike up to a bridge.  As we were leaving these falls, the parking lots were really filling up so we were glad we came early.

In the afternoon, we first stopped at an overlook over the Columbia River and then took a 14-mile drive up Larch Mountain Road which is partly in a national forest.  There's a short but steep hike up from the parking lot to a viewing platform which has a magnificent view of the five major mountains in the area (even Rainier, which is 97 miles away!)  It was a breathtaking sight!  We took the dogs on this hike.

Tomorrow, we head down to visit my aunt who lives near Corvallis.
