Since our bodies are still on Eastern time, we were out early before most people here. We found the back road into the Badlands park that Tommie remembered from 18 years ago. We had to drive on a gravel road, but it was worth it! We saw hundreds of prairie dog hills, dozens of buffalo, and two big-horned sheep.
The buffalo were wandering and eating all around the road and some crossed in front of us. We did NOT get out of the car! They were scratching their bellies and heads on the posts around the lookout areas since their winter coats were falling off.

This sign was after we saw all the bison!
They didn't look scary but we didn't get out of the car! |

| Is this a meadowlark? |
 |
| There were acres and acres of these. Lots of babies. |

These were over the bank from the road.
We talked with a lady who told us where to look for them. |
