Last day in the Black Hills

We spent one more day in the Black Hills area.  We drove through Rapid City and then onto Sturgis just to see it.  Lots of bikes already!  Not much town.

Then we went down to Deadwood to look around. There are lots of historic buildings, but there was no parking in the shade and most of the buildings now have casinos which didn’t interest us.  We liked the town of Lead, which reminds me of Grafton, WV (my mother's hometown) with all the steep little roads.  We  found a shady spot and ate our lunch.

We drove down to Hill City and watched the train leave.   It was a 2-hour ride and we couldn’t leave the dogs since there was no shade.  We drove by the Crazy Horse Monument and then through Custer and stopped by a woodcarver shop.  Hot Springs is a really pretty old town that’s not quite as touristy.  It has lots of red chipped-stone buildings.  

Crazyhorse doesn't look much different than when we saw it in 1995!
