Winnebago Voyage: Crazy Horse and Jewel Cave

We wanted to get to one of the caves early so we could book a tour, but we needed to change campgrounds, so we had to do that first. The first campground in Custer could only let us have 3 nights. It was a nice campground, but their Wifi was terrible, and the Verizon coverage was almost non-existent, so I was happy we had planned to move on. We're now on the other side of Custer, and are in a lovely, small campground with a wonderful view and a great phone connection so I can use my phone hotspot.

After we moved, we drove the 13 miles to Jewel Cave National Monument and bought tickets for the 3PM tour. We used the intervening time to go to the Crazy Horse Monument. They have made some progress in the 20 years since we last saw it, and they have a new museum with lots of Native American artifacts.

We stopped by the motorhome for lunch and to let the dogs out, and then went back to Jewel Cave. It's currently mapped at 177 miles, and our 1.5 hour tour went through just a very small part of it. They are continually mapping more and more of it, and it is currently the third longest cave in the world. They may find that it is the longest. I had a hard time getting good pictures. I don't really like to use flash since it distorts the colors, but it's hard to hold the camera still enough to take pictures without the flash. I had to discard a lot of photos!
