Wow! What a full day!
We started early since we wanted to do the Horseshoe Bend hike before it got hot (which it never did), but it was nice to have it to ourselves. As we were leaving, lots of people were coming in. It’s a long downhill trek in red sand, and then there are red sandstone rocks at the edge. They tell you not to stand near the edge since the rocks can break off!
Next, we did the tour of the Lower Antelope Canyon (a slot canyon). It is on Navajo land, and all tours are managed by members of the tribe. Our guide was a nice Navajo young man named Justin. He led us down the steep metal steps into the canyon and advised that if there was a flash flood, they had rope ladders stored in boxes around the edge, that someone would throw down for us! Fat chance!
There were some really narrow places and some steep metal steps, and it would be easy to fall. Justin strummed his guitar as we walked and took photos. The swirls in the red sandstone walls are incredible!
We went back to the Glen Canyon Dam visitor center again to take a tour of the dam, but our tour was cancelled because of high winds. We did walk out on the bridge to get a few pictures.
Our last excursion was the Antelope Canyon Boat Cruise. Unfortunately it was cloudy so my pictures just don’t “pop”. I wore jeans and my winter coat, and I needed them! The narration was nice, and the cruise was fun, but we wish we had had some blue sky. At least, it didn’t rain!
