Muir Woods....or not!

We wanted to check out the drive on the rest of the way down US 1 to near San Francisco.  It was really winding, and we will NOT take it in the motorhome!  There was fog in lots of places, but sun in others.  We stopped by the visitor center at Point Reyes, but didn't take the 45 minute drive to the point since it was so foggy they said we might not be able to see the lighthouse.

There was a wonderful overlook at Muir Beach with a walkway all the way out to the point.  We could see San Francisco from there in the distance....only somewhat foggy!

We thought we should get a look at more redwoods at Muir Woods.  Boy, was that a mistake!  On the map we found an entrance to it from US 1, but the sign said the road was closed.  We didn't know how far it was open, so we went in for a few miles, but there was no one to ask so we turned around.  Then we rode down to the intersection of 1 and 101 and pulled over to look at paper maps and phone maps.  We knew there was an entrance further south from US 1 so we started back up and followed the GPS.  We had pulled into a side road to look at the maps, and since we were already off the highway, the GPS took us through an incredibly hilly neighborhood!  In places, the road got so narrow, we thought it was just a driveway.  I'm sure that the slightest earth tremor will send those houses down the cliffs!

We finally turned into the main road for Muir Woods, and a sign said "Road construction/expect 15 minute delays."  We thought we were lucky since we didn't have to wait long.  They were resurfacing one side of the road for a couple of miles.  But, then we got to the entrance to the park, and all the lots were full.  There were cars stopped in the road, just waiting for someone to get in a car and leave.  We just wanted to get out of there and turned around after waiting in one spot for about 10 minutes, just to find out that they were not letting cars go back out the way we came in!  So, we had to turn around again and go out to US 1 down the road we had tried the first time.  There were cars parked on the sides of the road for several miles!  That is NOT the place to see redwoods!!

We drove back up 101 through Petaluma which is the route we'll take with the RV tomorrow.  When we got back to Bodega Bay, we rode out to Bodega Head which is on the road past our campground.  There's another great overlook there where you can see out to the ocean or back to the bay.

We did chores at the motorhome: changed the bed, did two loads of laundry, cut each others' hair, and bathed the dogs.

Can you tell how far down the water is?

Cormorants have claimed this rock!

Flower on the kind of succulent we see all around here.
They have these lots of places instead of grass,
and they don't make good doggy bathrooms!
