We wanted to spend time at the tip of Michigan since there are a couple of campgrounds near the Soo Locks in Sault Ste. Marie. It's just a few hours from our campground last night. We have a campsite that's around the corner from the real waterfront ones, but there haven't been many freighters going by anyway. There's a
website that has the location of ships in real time so we can see what's coming.
We drove down to the locks and watched the tour boat go through, but it was going to be at least an hour before a large ship came. We visited the small museum that housed the initial US Weather Bureau, which was really important since there was so much ship traffic and such volatile weather on the lakes.
