Winnebago Voyage: Duluth and the North Shore

We woke up to a storm, so we let the dogs go outside really fast and went back to sleep. We didn't need to rush since we didn't have far to go and didn't want to get to the next campground too early.

As we were leaving, we again stopped by the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. When we went there the other day, I missed a lot since I kept getting bird calls. They have a big parking lot, so we could leave our rig there.

We headed west to Duluth, which is a shipping port on Lake Superior. Our campground is at a marina in the middle of the city! It was sort of scary maneuvering through the city streets to get there! This is "blacktop camping", but it's different and interesting. They have a little trailer as a shower house. We can see the Ariel Lift Bridge from our site.

After we got settled we headed north to what they call the "North Shores". There are lots of fabulous houses on the shore, and we wonder how many of these people stay all winter!

We stopped at the Two Harbors light house, but didn't go inside since we had the dogs. There is a place to walk down to the rocky edge of the water.

Further north is Gooseberry Falls State Park. We circled the lot three times before we found a parking spot, but then took the dogs on a hike to the falls. Tommie and Brucie turned around part of the way, but Baxter and I took the whole loop trail which had lots of steps.

We went out to eat and then drove to the end of Minnesota Point, a narrow, 7-mile strip of land that the marina is on and which divides the main lake from Superior Bay. There's a small airport that has float plane excursions and also a public beach.
