Winnebago Voyage: Into North Dakota

We drove west through a lot of Minnesota and then most of North Dakota on I-94. The scenery was mostly huge green fields of corn, soybeans whatever hay they feed to the cattle. There are hundreds of gigantic solos. Fortunately, the roads have been very smooth and straight, so the driving was less stressful than on other days. Minnesota has lots of small lakes, and we don't know if they are always there or are left over from the recent flooding.

As we got more than halfway through North Dakota, the landscape started changing, and instead of flat or rolling fields, there were little pointy hills scattered about. Then, just a few miles east of Medora, the Badlands cropped up!...stunning hills and washes that are similar to the Badlands of South Dakota.

Since we picked up so many bugs on our windshield, most of the pictures I took had to be by holding my camera (with the strap) out my window.

We found our campground which is within the town of Medora and then rode to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park visitor center to figure out how to tour the area. It didn't take us long to decide that we should add a third night to our visit here!

We went into the tiny town to get dinner, but the two cafés we were interested in were closed, so we stopped by the pizza place, which we had been told was good. The noise level was deafening, so we asked for take-out. Since we had to wait 45 minutes for our pizza, we walked around the town and looked in some shops.

After dinner, we rode out to the Painted Canyon Overlook to see the sunset, but there were heavy clouds, so there wasn't a lot of color.
